How Not To Please Everyone

What makes one unique and what makes one surreal?

We are unique because we are born with differences in features and in character. Although it is human nature to appreciate people when there is goodness, pleasing people is another trait that seems natural. However, if you can’t please everyone, this is the situation now that being bold becomes superficial and that things may come with distaste.

So, how then NOT to please everyone?

It is by becoming who you are and by gaining the acceptance that you have limitations.  You can’t expect a five-star rating as you perform when you reach an audience and do the best performance of your life. You have to live a life with rejections, with criticisms, some good, some bad.

There are many instances in which I regard this blog as an alter ego. In fact, all the time I treat it as a portal of things being a Cebuano. And being appreciative to the crafts that have something to do with Cebu is part of the whole plan. But if someone misconstrued my works as that of a peddler begging for attention or that of a notorious performer hopelessly acting in a bad way, because of the notion that being a total entertainer is being a pleaser of all species, then I’d say I am far from those examples.

I blog because I have regarded the effects of blogging as something beneficial and therapeutic even. Although gaining impressions from webmasters, bloggers and spammers have been driven because I have to do some marketing, my blog is channeled to something that may be valuable to others ( and crap to some).

Listing Notable Bloggers from Cebu is intended to showcase my appreciation for some blogs that need attention. The lesson I’ve learned from Problogger Darren Rowse is to appreciate blogs with good contents. In fact, there are more than hundreds of millions blogs but, perhaps, only a small percentage have gained momentum and recognition in the blogosphere.

Being part of Cebu blogging community, it is rightful to showcase blogs that have become influential or have remarkable contents to display in the community.

I have disregarded many things that may come out after posting it. What I had in mind is to have something that may be valuable to others. But, I did not expect that many will like what I have done and or what I did. I just acted on impulse of conscience with no sign of malice. Although, there was intention, my aspiration was to bring good, not harm.

This post should not be seen as a tirade but rather an elusive awakening  that helps me reach that maturity in the blogosphere without having to step on other people . Instead, I write this to bring positivity.

I have to integrate what I learned from Micaela Rodriguez, a fellow blogger but an influential one who blogs at Micamyx during her speech at Cebu Blog Camp 2010: “Don’t blog to impress others.”

To reiterate, “don’t blog to impress others” seems a contradictory statement. For many bloggers, having a blog is to create impression. For those who are into copywriting or are writers, the blog is an exemplification of where the talent in writing is channeled. It may be deemed a portfolio or an extended resume. So naturally, a blogger blogs to create impression, to express the freedom and to display his or her prowess. To impress readers is part of the process.

But after pondering through with that statement, I have gained the realization that blogging is not about gaining impression or to impress others by blogging, solely. To blog is to provide value. This is another concept of blogging, apart from or frankly distant to its common concept as an online journal.

There are lessons learned from this subject. I have even posted another content on my other blog that is directly connected with this topic. The thing here is that we are not borne to do things that all will conform. Being rational persons, we have the right to please or even convey displeasure to some things.

If you find this post an an implication of some things, then let me know so I can clarify.
