If your business is situated in a prime location, there is a high chance for success. And the likelihood for failure should also be considered.
Oh! Bern Net Cafe and Snack Bar is a dream business. I’ve been wanting to own and operate a food business. But because of time and financial constraints, opening up one would be a strain. When I was offered to takeover the location and manage the liquidation of unused assets and run the remaining assets for use in a new venture, I instantly took the offer with a little bit of reservations. Hesitation there was for I still had to know the background of the operation and some other things which I found inappropriate to divulge on this blog.
But excitement overwhelmed the whole picture for I wanted to engage in a kind of business that I planned to have a year before.
Oh! Bern Net Cafe and Snack Bar is not just a food station. It mixes tech into the scene.
I know this would be early for me to promote the business. The processing of business permits and all other legal stuffs are not done… yet. Hopefully, before September or October of this year ends, the business establishment can operate with ease. Everything should be legal, right?
But, my business is legal and I am selling legal stuffs. The business is registered but all other permits are to be accomplished still. It is a new business, by the way. My schedule is hectic because of the renovations, preparations, organizing and all other necessary activities and burdens, a manager should do for the business to take off.
Why did I take the business management and operation?
Firstly, I’ve been drafting a business plan, and thankfully, the location of the business fits well, even though I am burdened with the skyrocketing rental cost.
Secondly, there is a stake here. And when I say stake, it is ownership I’ve implied about.
Thirdly, the location sits well at the heart of Cebu City where Sinulog happens every first month of every year.
Fourthly, I want a place for bloggers to hang out. Though I still need to purchase good wireless routers so netbook owners can use the wi-fi service as they visit, dine, blog and chill at the cafe, the place is still open for bloggers who want to rent a PC to surf the net, update their blogs and do SEO’s. They may also plug their laptops and netbooks with Internet cables–for a fee, that is.
There are other reasons need not to enumerate–for businessmen’s perspectives, that’s why.
And now comes the promotion.
I have target markets.
Our PC rental per hour may be too costly for many. Students may find the use of PC’s burdensome, though they can surf, have fun and not be mindful of the charge we rate per hour. But still, students are our target markets as well as the gamers.
Our primary targets though are Koreans and other multinationals, yuppies, bloggers and other professionals.
They are challenges for choosing the target markets particularly on how to keep the service good and satisfactory. Though complaints abound, thankfully, they are not many as I seem to reckon on my first month of management. There will be more to come but my focus is on how to keep the aims, objectives and goals attainable.

I’ll definitely visit your place, Bjorn. Congrats for the great job and I look forward for your success on such endeavor!
