Cebuano Film Grabs the Major Award

To be the first Cebuano film to bag an award in CineManila is a dream come true for Remton Zuasola, the director of the award-winning film, Damgo ni Eleuteria.

The Cebuano film was inspired from a book Zuasola read but admitted that only 10 percent of the story was adapted to write the screenplay.

The film’s director is known for long takes and no cuts with less defined scripts.

Winning the Best Picture award in the Southeast Asian category of CineManila 2010 may seem a rare feat as it is the first featured Cebuano film to every qualify in a prestigious national award-giving body but it could pave the way for many talents in cinematic-directing and production in Cebu.

Damgo ni Eleuteria received the Best Picture trophy on Friday, December 3, 2010. It is the second award-giving body to recognize the work of Zuasola.

The Cebuano film is the first Cebuano film to qualify in Cinema One Originals and has won the Jury Prize and Best Musical Scoring last month.
