Philippines beats India in terms of revenue and manpower in the call center industry. It is another David and Goliath scene and as always the smaller aggressor wins.
However, the Philippines has posed challenges in the BPO sector. Although the job demand for call center agents is high, only a small portion of the big Philippine population is qualified. The sad thing is that most of the unemployed are not qualified for a call center job as they are high school graduates or have not reached high school level.
Amidst the challenge, the industry has looked for ways to tap the deficiencies and has begun looking for alternative pool of talents.
Now, in other news, Cebu City experienced an Intensity 1 quake yesterday at 2:47 pm. There was no aftershock from the quake, however. But the quake struck most of Mindanao island with epicenter located northeast of Mati, Davao Oriental.
Meanwhile, typhoid fever hits the southern town of Alegria, Cebu. The ailment becomes an outbreak as declared by DOH Region 7 with more than a hundred being affected and 39 being admitted in hospitals as of Dec. 8, 2010.
Improper sanitation is the cause of the outbreak citing bacterial infection in water and food contaminated with sewage water.
In some other news, the Royal Brunei Navy has deployed troops in the Philippines for a 6-day bilateral training exercise. As of today, 56 officers and men of RBN are in Cebu City.
The Royal Brunei Navy officers and navy ships are in the Philippines from December 6-12.
