Saving lives is definitely not easy. And so is being part of the training program, where your lives can be at risk.
If you want to experience this…

this…

and this…

It seems an adventure, doesn’t it?
I first experienced a live training program where trainees were bonded with safety belts, harnesses and helmets and were tied down on ropes, propelling upside down or even zip-lining. Seeing those trainees has made wonder how they managed it and eventually decided to try it. However, I was overcome with fear and might do the exercise next time.

Founded by a mountaineer who was among the first Filipinos to reach the peak of Mt. Everest, LDS Seagul Rescue International, Inc. is a non-government organization and is accredited by the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council. It is part of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Their equipment came from the donations of the Latter Day Saints Church, perhaps, attributing to the acronym LDS. However, LDS stands for Light Disaster Squadron and LDS Seagull Rescuers are among those certified to join Cebu City’s rescue team in times of unexpected occurrences such as calamities and disasters.

I was given a chance to talk with the founder, Mr. Peter Negrido and was inspired by his advocacy for safety. He told me the utmost relevance of safety and safety training as the first steps towards a safe and secure home. Teaching kids about safety and instructing them the basic first-aid methods are also part of his advocacy.

It was a night to remember. I went with fellow-blogger and academic doctor Doc Buboy Tapia. We really had a blast after. After knowing the cause, we definitely want others to join this training program, that is, if they have what it takes to be tough.

Volunteering gives you a chance to experience new things, try out different assignments and build your confidence as you work to meet new challenges. Salute to this people that risks their life to help others.
