Last week, I went to a newly-renovated mall in Colon Street to check the area. On the first floor, I encountered a store selling souvenir products with a male attendant in gothic costume but in anime-inspired hairdo. No doubt the attendant was a cosplayer but was regarded unique in that area that day for he was the only one in that kind of outfit.
This October 29, 2011, if that male attendant was permitted to go to Ayala Center and be with others in different anime costumes, he would’t be considered an “outcast” despite his job required him to wear the not-so-typical costume. He will be with others that may be in the same costume as him.
Cosplaying is not anymore new to Cebu. Yearly, there are events and even competitions that showcase different individuals mostly the young ones in their anime costumes. Some are bizaare, very emo, gothic while many are sexy. Yes, many female cosplayers have become sex symbols especially if they decide to personify Sailor Moon, one of the popular manga characters from Japan.
Although many cosplay events happen inside the mall, this year a differen cosplay event will take place in an open area.
CEdf-IT Cosplay HD will turn an area in Cebu Business Park into a district popular in Japan because of the existence of youths in unconventional fashion attires.
Harajuku District is known as a popular rendezvous of youths in their street fashion and outlandish clothing untypical in other areas in Japan. This Japanese district will be emulated in Cebu at CEDf-IT Cosplay HD.
This Saturday, expect for a crowd of cosplayers flocking at Cebu Business Park near Cebu Holdings Bldg. and Cebu City Sports Club. And don’t anymore be surprised to see blood-stained, powdered or cosmetic-enhanced faces and dark to colorful clothing as well as the hairdo. You will be taken to a world that may seem outrageous to many, especially the conservatives. But if you appreciate art, then you have to come to this event as this may be a chance for you to check the different individuals in their out-of-this-world attires that only cosplyers are brazen enough to wear. You may not know it yet but one of your friends or classmates or even relatives may be into cosplaying.
CEDf-IT Cosplay HD will occur this Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 5 in the afternoon to 12 midnight. This event is one of the series of events lined up for the 10th anniversary of Cebu Educational Development for Information Technology foundation. The event is in partnership with Ayala Center Cebu and Cebu Holdings Bldg. and in cooperation with ILuvCebu.com.
